This is an exciting time to join Defra and its communications team. We have a significant international and European agenda, with as much as 80% of our work impacting across borders. And, further to the vote to leave the EU, we are committed to engage across all of Defra’s sectors and stakeholders, along with the wider public, to shape plans that will deliver genuine and lasting change for food, farming, fishing and the environment once we are outside the EU.
The communications team is ambitious about what communications can achieve and we believe in its power to challenge perceptions, change behavior, build partnerships and make a social and economic difference
The News and External Communications team help plan, coordinate and delivery announcements and policies to the relevant outside audiences – including the media, stakeholders, businesses and the public
The Internal Communications team works closely with communication leads in our main arm’s length bodies plus press, internal and digital teams to drive and deliver the department’s key priorities. Its role is to make sure that Defra staff are informed and engaged on the latest news, both internally and externally, and that they are equipped to act as its very best ambassadors.
